Howards End Is on the Landing: A Year of Reading from Home

Howards End Is on the Landing: A Year of Reading from Home - Susan Hill I loved this book by Susan Hill (author of 'The Woman in Black' and many other works). She talks at the beginning of setting aside a year to eschew buying books and instead take time to go through her not inconsiderable collection of books at home, reading things she has yet to read and revisiting old 'friends'. She talks about how using the internet too much affects the ability to read deeply for prolonged periods of time, and how there is so much writing about books and reading online that it is easy to get caught up in that rather than reading the books themselves. I read this silently slapping the desk and shouting 'yes,'yes, yes' like Meg Ryan in the famous cafe scene out of 'When Harry met Sally'...
Unfortunately for me, Susan Hill's library is a whole lot more interesting than mine and reading this has only given me even MORE suggestions to add to my 'to-read' list which currently stands at 129 titles..! So a bit of an own goal there...
